Recently, I read an article by Patrick O. about the value of creating systems that keep working for you even when you don’t feel like working, and it struck me that this applies to data science and analysis.

As with every new year, there’s a buzz about new beginnings and every other thing: resolutions, fitness, fashion trends, start-up ideas, beauty, entertainment, tech breakthroughs, AI, health, businesses, new sign-ups, and every other initiative.

What is specifically common through all these trends is DATA.

You have heard it before: “Data is the new oil.”

While I can’t say if this is true, every sector — retail, healthcare, finance, entertainment, or even personal productivity, succeeds with insightful data and analysis.

At the end of the year, businesses want clarity on their numbers:

- How did we perform compared to last year?

- Where did we overshoot our budgets?

- Which campaigns delivered value, and which products tanked?

- What’s next for the following year?

As a data analyst, the best time to set up shop is now. You have the opportunity to step in and work to uncover these insights.
